Meet your instructors
Guitar Playground was created by Tom Fontana, a guitar teacher with over 25 years of experience and creator of TheGuitarLesson.com, and his son Milan, who started learning guitar at age 9 and is now 11.
Our Story
Guitar Playground™ is the result of over 25 years of teaching experience, countless hours of research, and a personal journey of teaching my own son, Milan. From the first strum to the official launch, every step has been about creating a fun, effective way for kids to learn guitar and fall in love with music.
1990s: A PASSION FOR GUITAR IS BORN
Tom started playing guitar as a teenager, teaching himself with books and tapes. This passion for music would later inspire him to help others learn.
2008: TheGuitarLesson.com is Launched
After years of giving private lessons, Tom launched TheGuitarLesson.com to make learning guitar accessible to beginners worldwide. Since then, over 180,000 students have learned guitar through his site.
2020: Milan’s First Guitar Experience
At age 7, Milan gets his first ukulele - only to break it while trying to play it with an electric hand mixer 😄 Age 7 was too early with him...
2022: Milan Starts Learning Guitar
Milan begins learning guitar with Tom as his teacher. It’s not smooth sailing, but through trial and error and a bit of psychology, Tom discovers what works.
2024: Guitar Playground™ is Born
Combining years of teaching experience, insights from child psychologists, and Milan’s feedback, Tom creates Guitar Playground - a gamified, song-based learning system designed specifically for kids aged 8-14.
June 2024: Soft Launch Success
The course is soft-launched to 43 families who provide overwhelmigly positive feedback and help us refine the backend of Guitar Playground.
february 7, 2025: Official Launch
Guitar Playground™ officially launches.
